Premature Physeal Closure after a Non-Displaced Physeal Fracture of Distal Fibula
نویسندگان
چکیده
Premature physeal closure (PPC) may lead to clinically significant progressive angular deformity or leg length discrepancy. Many variables seem play a role in determining which injuries result PPC. A 8- year-old boy sustained non-displaced fracture of distal tibia and fibula. He showed no signs PPC at 7 months post-injury. Seven years later, his ankle became painful. had developed fibula causing deformity, was treated successfully by corrective osteotomy. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case leading several after initial injury, understanding impossible predict.

Premature closure of the physeal plate after treatment of a slipped capital femoral epiphysis.
BACKGROUND Treatment of a slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) should stabilize the epiphysis and prevent complications. Attempting to obtain physeal closure is still controversial. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the clinical results and complications after treatment of SCFE. METHODS From 1989 to 2000, 12 patients (14 hips) underwent pinning for treatment of SCFE. For acute and...
متن کاملAngular deformity development after the distal tibial physeal fractures.
Several clinical and radiological factors can be prognostic in the development of angular deformity following physeal injuries of the distal tibia. One of the radiological parameters, premature physeal closure (PPC), can be detected during postoperative follow-ups. Aim of our study was to identify the prognostic factors in development of angular deformity and its relationship with PPC. One hund...
متن کاملWhat is the best treatment for displaced Salter–Harris II physeal fractures of the distal tibia?
Background and purpose - The optimal treatment of displaced Salter-Harris (SH) II fractures of the distal tibia is controversial. We compared the outcomes of operative and nonoperative treatment of SH II distal tibial fractures with residual gap of >3 mm. Factors that may be associated with the incidence of premature physeal closure (PPC) were analyzed. Patients and methods - We retrospectively...
متن کاملSalter-Harris I and II fractures of the distal tibia: does mechanism of injury relate to premature physeal closure?
INTRODUCTION The distal tibial physis is the second most commonly injured physis in long bones. Recent reports demonstrate a high rate of premature physeal closure (PPC) in Salter-Harris (SH) type I or II fractures of the distal tibia. METHODS At our institution, 137 distal tibial SH type I or II fractures were treated from 1994 to 2002. Reviews were performed on all patients and 91 fractures...
متن کاملA unique physeal injury of the distal phalanx
An unusual Salter-Harris Type 1 fracture variant of the distal phalanx of the index finger is described. The epiphysis was dislocated, sitting dorsally over the middle phalanx head with the articular surface facing dorsal. Reduction could only be achieved through an open procedure. The reduction was stable without supplemental fixation.
